History
In
December of 1951, the Walterboro Chamber of Commerce, Inc. was chartered.
Operation under this name continued for 26 years. During June of 1977
the Board of Directors changed the organization name to the Walterboro-Colleton
Chamber of Commerce thereby expanding services county wide.
The 1951 Charter states the organization purposes as, "to
advance the commercial, industrial, civic and general interest of
the City of Walterboro and Colleton County, S.C." These purposes
remain the same today and are carried out through the strength of
it's volunteer members. These members represent a majority of the
citizens of the Walterboro-Colleton business and professional community.
The members annually elect a Board of Directors to oversee the program
development and set policies for Chamber direction.
